What do you get?
A year on the road
Join the interrail and island hopping through Europe! We have previously visited places like Greece, Italy, Hungary and Bulgaria — destinations vary from year to year. Here you experience everything from historic towns, food markets to relaxation and beach life. We also explore island life near the school.
Europe before and now
We take a closer look European history, World War II and previous conflicts, and how they still characterize today's Europe. At the same time, you will learn about organizations such as UN and Amnesty, and their work for peace, human rights and international cooperation.
Europe in change
Through topics such as refugees, the Eurovision Song Contest and the role of business in Europe, you get a broad picture of how the continent is developing. We also explore life on the islands of the Mediterranean, and see how everyday life there is affected by globalisation and climate.
Explore, learn and live
From ancient ruins for modern megacities -- you learn about culture, society and human encounters across borders. We reflect on Europe before and now, and how history affects the world we live in today.
Learning that matters
We combine teaching and practiceso that you get to use what you learn out in the world. Together we plan our trips, set goals and reflect on everything we experience — learning through experience in its purest form.
Make a difference
Each year, the board chooses a assistance project to support. We try to visit the project on the journey, or receives visits from collaborators at school. You see with your own eyes how small actions can create major changes.
Meeting with reality
The line has a solid focus on cultural differences, young European life and societal challenges — all seen through my own experiences and travels.
Mix of beach life and big city
Experience both the pulse of the metropolis and the tranquility of coastal life: from historic cities to snorkeling and sun on beaches.
People and memories
Perhaps the best part of the journey is the people you share it with. On the walk, in the classroom and in the breaks between, a community full of laughter, collaboration and adventure that binds you together.

When choosing the line , you also get the option to combine it with one of the lines below.
At Karmøy Folkehøgskule you get a very special school year where you choose two of our 20 lines — and follows both throughout the year. This gives you over 190 possible line combinations, so you can create a year that suits exactly your interests.
You have approximately 40 line days on every line. The rest of the time is filled with common subjects, electives and theme days that provide variety and community in everyday life.
