At Fashion Clothes Design/Redesign — London & Paris you get creative freedom, learn both pattern construction and redesign, and travel to London in autumn and Paris in Spring for inspiration from fashion cities and vintage pearls.

Creative process and design understanding
You work with design projects and own party costume (bunad) which gives you practical experience in planning, execution and completion. Through your own creations, you gain both technical introduction and aesthetic understanding.

Exhibition and display
Towards the end of the year, the class puts together a exhibition or fashion show where you show off your own designs. This provides both pride, stage experience and inspiration to continue creating after the school year.

Insights into design history
Gain insight into famous designers and fashion history as a backdrop for your own work. Knowledge of the world of design gives you the confidence to create your own expressions.
Joint trips and joint events
The school also has community study tours and local cultural offerings for all pupils, including Preikestolen and events at Haugalandet. These activities provide variety, community and inspiration beyond the course.

Redesign and sustainability
Redesign is part of the course, where you learn to work with patterns and garments that already exist. The joy of repairing, reusing and creating something new is central.

Sewing machines and techniques
You learn to use sewing machine, overlock and coverlock — three essential tools for textile work. Varied techniques ensure that over time you become confident in sewing and manufacturing.

Stitching and redesign techniques
You get to learn to sew your own clothes and redesign old garments with the help of sewing machine. Basic pattern construction and knitting techniques also help to give you broad expertise in clothing.

Study trip to London
Autumn tour goes to London, perhaps Europe's best shopping city with countless fabric stores and vintage finds. The city is a venue for inspiration and handson experiences in fashion and textile.

Study trip to Paris
The spring tour goes to Paris, where fashion houses like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dior queuing up -- and good vintage shops are waiting. The experience gives you cultural context and creative replenishment in one of the world's most renowned fashion cities.

The teaching is tailored to your level, whether you are a beginner or have previous sewing experience. The goal is for you to know mastery and joy of making something yourself.

At Karmøy Folkehøgskule you get a very special school year where you choose two of our 20 lines — and follows both throughout the year. This gives you over 190 possible line combinations, so you can create a year that suits exactly your interests.
You have approximately 40 line days on every line. The rest of the time is filled with common subjects, electives and theme days that provide variety and community in everyday life.
