Outdoor Activities Sea
Diving, sailing & island hopping in Croatia
Do you dream of sun, sea and adventure? At Outdoor Recreation Sea you get a year full of Water, Wind and Experiences. You will learn to sail, dive and master life at sea — both in Norway and on a trip to Croatia, where you jump between beautiful islands, snorkel in crystal clear waters and sail with good friends. This is the course for those who love nature, water and freedom.
What do you get?
Coastal life and community
On trips to a sea cabin in beautiful Sveio, and other gems along the coast, you get to know the sea in new ways. We fish, cook outside and share experiences that create strong bonds between students.
Fishing and boating license
We fish with rod and twine and you will learn how to catch and prepare your own catch. You can also take boating license and become a skipper on your own ship — an optional addition that gives you practical sea expertise.
Nature and sustainability
You will gain insight into sustainable coastal life through visits to Røvær Aquaculture Center and accommodation idea fantastic The tangle huts outside Haugesund. The trips provide an understanding of how we can use nature without consuming it.
Safety and rescue
Safety at sea is important, and you exercise with RS 160 “Horn Rescue” and RC “Triton” from the Red Cross. You also get to practice lifeguard in Karmøyhallen, and learns how to act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Surf and SUP
You get to try both surfing and stand up paddleboarding (SUP) — two activities that require balance, strength and calm. Surfing lessons provide speed and tension, while SUP is about focus and flow on the water.
Trip to Croatia
The highlight of the line is probably the course's amazing trip to Croatia. The first part of the trip we spend at beautiful Bol outside Split with diving course (different levels), windsurfing,kayak, e-bike and pooling. Then we leave for a week on island hopping with sailboats. We live on the sailboat, bathe in crystal clear water, eat good food and experience the community on board.
Trip to Hovden
On the winter trip to Hovden you get everything from slalom and snowboarding to tobogganing and water parks. In the evening we gather at the cottage with a lot of laughter, wonderful atmosphere and of course... our own après ski! Teacher Torkild brings his pizza oven with him - and then it will be a pizza party!
Water skiing and wakeboarding
Here you get full speed on the water with water skis, wakeboard and tube. There's exercise, play and laughter in one, and you get to know the mastery of mastering the waves on your own.
Watercraft and ocean rafting
You get to experience the adrenaline from speed and sea spray when we ride jet skis and ocean rafting. These are activities that provide both excitement and peace of mind at sea — a combination that you will love.
Winter and country activities
When the cold comes we do activities such as skiing, snowboarding, luge, curling, frisbee golf, hockey and sauna. Winter activities gives you variety, team feeling and experiences that contrast with sea life. In case of heavy rain we can also pull indoors for activities such as padel, tennis and squash.

At Karmøy Folkehøgskule you get a very special school year where you choose two of our 20 lines — and follows both throughout the year. This gives you over 190 possible line combinations, so you can create a year that suits exactly your interests.
You have approximately 40 line days on every line. The rest of the time is filled with common subjects, electives and theme days that provide variety and community in everyday life.
