At Experience South America, you get a school year filled with warm encounters, stark contrasts and new perspectives. You travel to Brazil and Argentina, learn about culture, environment and solidarityand get to experience how small actions can make a big difference. As we say: “The sea is also made up of drops — it benefits what little me does.”

What do you get?
Culture and community
Experience music, dance, football, language and traditions — and meet people who live with both joy and challenges in everyday life. You will know how culture binds people together across languages and backgrounds.
Global understanding
Through meetings with people, projects and environments you will learn how small choices locally can make a big difference globally. You'll get a fresh look at how the world is connected — and what role you play in it.
Jiu jitsu, capoeira and martial arts culture
Try your hand at Brazilian jiu jitsu and capoeira, learn something from history and culture of martial arts — and experience how movement and culture are connected.
Language and communication
Learn basic Portuguese and Spanish — useful for your journey, and a door opener to real encounters with people you meet along the way. When you know a bit of the language, you also get to share in the stories and humor of the people you meet.
Nature and experiences
Explore jungle, waterfalls, beaches and city life all in the same journey. From iconic places like Iguacu Falls for small communities you get to experience the power and diversity of nature up close.
People and society
Gain insight into everyday life in South America, and see how culture, beliefs and politics affect people's lives. You learn to understand society through the people you meet—not just through books.
Solidarity in practice
Participate in assistance projects and cooperation with local organizations; who work for justice, sustainability and hope. Through concrete projects, you will learn how solidarity can be made alive in practice.
Stories with influence
You will have time to reflect, document and share your own experiences, both through photos, text and conversations within the group. The stories you collect become part of something bigger — both for you and for the community.
Two journeys — one adventure
The course has two main trips during the year, where you experience everything from urban life to local engagement and nature experiences. Each trip gives you new perspectives and memories that carry you on.
Unforgettable journey
Travel through Brazil and Argentina — from big city life and favelas to beautiful beaches and tropical nature. You get to see both the contrasts and the community that shape everyday life in South America.

When choosing the line , you also get the option to combine it with one of the lines below.
At Karmøy Folkehøgskule you get a very special school year where you choose two of our 20 lines — and follows both throughout the year. This gives you over 190 possible line combinations, so you can create a year that suits exactly your interests.
You have approximately 40 line days on every line. The rest of the time is filled with common subjects, electives and theme days that provide variety and community in everyday life.
